It turns out that the biathlon isn't just for outstanding winter athletes. A summer version exists that combines shooting and running instead of cross country skiing. And now this version exists for us - the inaugural BB gun biathlon, now incorporating short distances and beer.
The race consists of three laps, each beginning with a course of fire: standing, kneeling, then prone. Each lap there is only one target, a full beer can (soda can be substituted if desired). In order to leave the shooting station for the run the can must be empty, whether because it drained out or because you drank it. However, the drinking option is only available once the can has been hit with a BB. There is no limit on the number of shots allowable to hit the can. Time starts with the first shot of the first lap and ends when crossing the finish line on the last lap.
The terrain is rough and sturdy shoes are recommended.
This being the first attempt at this, there will almost certainly be some trial and error. Hopefully we'll be able to run three people at a time with three shooting stations.
The best time of the day wins a junky piece of scrap wood to commemorate the win. And bragging rights, which is the most important part anyway.
The plan at this point is just burgers and dogs along with drinks and other basics. If there are requests, please let me know. We'll all just share cooking duties.
There'll be tents for shade and some limited seating. We'll plan to just run everything concurrently.
