Several years ago, our founder needed to have a dying tree taken down that was in danger of falling on his house. As an enthusiastic, but very amateur woodworker, it seemed like a real shame to have the logs chopped up and hauled away as garbage when they could potentially be repurposed as lumber for projects right there at the house. After some hemming and hawing, a larger chainsaw and an Alaskan mill were purchased and it was off to the races. The process was surprisingly enjoyable and yielded more cedar lumber than he actually had a real use for. An idea was born.
A not particularly novel idea, it turns out. Organizations like the Urban Wood Network, of which we are a member, exist to coordinate and promote the use of this grossly underutilized resource. Nationally, tons of merchantable timber enter the waste stream every year. There is in fact a huge amount of really worthwhile wood that could be intercepted and processed as useable lumber before it gets thrown away. That's our mission: to rescue local wood that would otherwise enter the waste stream or be left to rot and turn it into a sustainable resource for local users.
We look forward to the opportunity to work with you on your projects, big and small.
